Happy Birthday Daddy!

Nick's parents took Logan Friday and Saturday night, so we got him back this morning. At some point over that 36 hour period, he finally cut his first tooth! It more than likely happened on Saturday, Daddy's birthday!! Yay!

I will post a picture as soon as I can get one.

Logan is too funny with it. He keeps rubbing his tongue on it like "Hey! How'd that get there!"

My little boy is growing up so fast!!

Hannah

The little girl I posted about the other day, Hannah, got her wings today.

Let's keep her family in our prayers as they go through this tumultuous time. I am thankful that Hannah is happy and healthy in Heaven, I know she will be waiting for them.

Rest peacefully sweet little Hannah.

Christmas 2008

We had a pretty nice Christmas this year considering. We didn't do anything at our house, but we were very happy to be invited to Nick's friend, Ryan's house for Christmas Eve. His family is very very nice, and we enjoy their company quite often. We all snacked on some very yummy appetizers that Ryan's mom, DeeDee made. She is an excellent cook! Then, we participated in the present exchange and got some really cool martini glasses and a mini George Foreman grill! Yay!

Christmas morning, Logan let us sleep until 9 or so (yay!). We hung around the house for a few hours and then went to see my Dad. He had fun with Logan. He really misses him this couple of weeks. Last week with all the snow, I only had school 3 days last week. Plus I am off for the Holidays for 2 weeks. It was great seeing them together. Logan fell asleep on Dad's lap almost right away!

After Dad's house, we went to Nick's aunt Carrie's house. Carrie, Brett, Maureen, Randy, us, Pat, Grandma Keogh, Barb and Penny, Penny's mom, Mike, Valerie, and Tammy were all there. We had a very nice dinner. Logan got spoiled by everyone, and we got a few new outfits, toys, and other things for him. In the gift exchange, Nick and I got a very nice set of steak knives for the new house! Yay!

So, all in all it was a very nice Christmas. We move into the new house on Thursday, the 1st. We get the keys on Monday, so I will be moving small boxes for the first few days of the week. I can't wait to be home!!

Today is Nick's birthday, so a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to the most wonderful man in my life. I love you!! (sorry you only have one more year until the big 3-0!)

Here are some pictures for your enjoyment. :)

Wow two posts in one day!!

As I am sitting here relaxing from a long hectic teething day with Logan, he and Daddy are asleep in the bedroom. This past week, since I've been out of school, I have been cruising around my baby message board a lot more than usual. I belong to babycenter.com and have found tremendous support and encouragement (and fun!)from the ladies there.

A couple of little girls have been brought to my attention, and they could use all the prayers and well wishes that we can give them.

The first one is Hannah. She was born in July 2007 and is very very sick. This is taken from Hannah's CarePage:

This page was created for Hannah Eileen Salcher (a.k.a. Panda). Hannah was diagnosed with MPS Type I on June 30, 2008- one week before her first birthday. Hannah and her mom came to Chicago on May 30, 2008 for an appointment with a specialist at Children's Hospital to be evaluated for sagittal craniosynostosis (premature closure of the sagittal suture of the skull). She was diagnosed with sagittal craniosynostosis at the beginning of June, but the doctors thought there was something more. After lots of testing MPS was diagnosed. It's possible that Hannah will need skull reconstruction but we are taking one thing at a time right now. Through Hannah's care page we hope to keep family members updated on her condition and network with others who are affected by MPS.

MPS is an acronym for a rare genetic disorder called mucopolysaccharidosis. Basically, Hannah's body is lacking an enzyme necessary to break down molecules called glycosaminoglycans - long chains of sugar carbohydrates in each of our cells that help build bone, cartilage, tendons, corneas, skin and connective tissue. Over time, these glycosaminoglycans collect in the cells, blood and connective tissues. The result is permanent, progressive cellular damage which affects appearance, physical abilities, organ and system functioning and in most cases, mental development.

Her carepage link is: http://www.carepages.com/carepages/HannahEileenSalcher/patient

A lot of moms on BabyCenter are praying for Hannah to pull through! Please join us!

The next little girl is Kayleigh. She was born very prematurely and has been struggling for her life since her birth on June 23 2008. She is only 3 weeks older than Logan, yet so tiny and fragile. Her family felt for sure last week that they were losing her, but she is showing how much of a fighter she is and hanging on!! It definitely shows the power of prayer.

http://kayleighannefreeman.blogspot.com/

Please keep these two beautiful little girls close to your hearts in the coming weeks. I'm glad they will both see Christmas. Let's get them home!!!

Christmas is upon us!!

Things have been crazy around here, sorry for having no recent posts! As soon as we get moved and settled, I will make sure and write more often. Here are a few pictures of Logan (5 months old!) and the new house!! Enjoy! Have a great Holiday season!

I guess that is about it for now! I think we will have a tooth by Christmas. I can feel a bump on his lower gums, and he is chewing and drooling even more than usual! He is also not sleeping very well.. the past two nights he's been up the majority of them both.

Have a great Christmas everyone!

Edited! I realized I promised pictures of the new house but forgot to add any! Forgive me! Here are a few of my favorites.

Well.. I will have to get back to you guys.. Photobucket is down right now. :(

General Updates!

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile!! Life has been keeping me busy. School is going great! I just finished my first quarter back, and got a 4.0. :) I'm the president of the college's PC User's Club, and we are holding three fundraisers right now, plus having meetings with presentations every week. I also started an employee interviewing class. That one is pretty interesting.

This past week, I returned to work at the Old Spaghetti Factory. It is nice to be able to have a job, but it was kind of bittersweet going back.

We also found out this week that Nick, Logan and I will be moving! Pat is taking over the mortgage, so Nick and I found a very nice updated townhouse! It is only one bedroom, but there is an attached office area with walk in closet where we will put Logan. We get the keys on the 29th, so we are very excited!

Other than that, I'm just trying to pack, work, school, take care of Logan, and finish all of our Christmas gifts! There just aren't enough hours in the day!!

Logan got a new toy!!

We picked up his Exersaucer last night! When we first put him in it, he looked at the toys and got this terrified look on his face and started screaming!! He did that for maybe the first five minutes, while we showed him each toy. I felt so bad, but it was hilarious. After he got over the fear (LOL), he LOVED it!! He played in it for about an hour last night, and he's in it already again this morning. He likes it because he can actually push the buttons!

Then, we tried some cereal because he has been staring at our food for weeks now! He wasn't sure about it, and kept spitting it out, so we'll try again in a week or so.

As I am sitting here, Logan has turned himself all the way around in his exersaucer to play with the toys on the other side! What a big boy. :D

I Miss Logan

I honestly can't stand it anymore. I'm going to ask that they bring him home tomorrow. I was in tears half the night, and on the brink the other half of the night tonight. I miss my baby!!! I just want him back here in my arms. I don't care if I'm still hurting a little bit. My weight limit is 30 pounds, and Logan is nowhere near that. My heart is hurting way more than my tummy. I can't wait to see my little smiley guy again. I am sure he misses his Mommy too. And his Daddy.

Also, the elevator in our building is down.. AGAIN. It was down for almost 2 weeks, a little over a month ago! Now there's a sign saying it will be down 3-4 days. GREAT. I'm going to have to suck it up and do the stairs, because I have things I need to do on Friday for sure. And hopefully tomorrow we will be going to Babies R Us and getting Logan's exersaucer. Oh well.. we'll get much needed exercise. I will just be careful and take it really slowly.

Nick had the day off today, and we just relaxed all day long. We went to go find a newspaper this morning, and finally the 4th box we checked had some. I bought all the ones that were there. (3). Then I heard on the news tonight, that in Seattle, almost every newspaper had sold out by noon. Of every company. Holy moly. I'm glad I found some. Now I'm on the quest to figure out which paper our birth announcement was printed in, and get some of those!

Missing Logan

Since I had my surgery on Friday, Nick's parents have had Logan all weekend. We sure are missing that little guy!! I hope that they come to visit us today, because I really miss his smile.

I am still in a lot of pain and discomfort, but wouldn't mind holding my son for a few minutes! I think Nick's mom is planning on spending a couple days with us this week, which will work out great. She can help me take care of Logan, and help me get out of bed too! Nick has to go back to work tomorrow, so I will need some extra help. I hope she doesn't mind!

Anyway, as soon as I feel up to it, we will dress Logan up and get some pictures in his Halloween costume. He is so cute in it! :D

Surgery..

Well I had my surgery on Friday. I got to the hospital with Nick at 11 am. We went to a little staging room, while we waited. I got an IV, and the surgeon, nurses, and anesthesiologist came to talk to me. I finally went to the OR at about 2 pm. They put something in my IV, and had be breathe from an oxygen mask, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery and it was 5 o'clock. I was really really out of it, but in a lot of pain. The sun was shining right in my eyes until the nurses finally realized that they should close the blinds. They gave me Fentanyl for the pain, but it didn't work. That's what they gave me while I was in labor too, and it didn't work then either!

I finally got wheeled to my room at about 6 or so. The nurses couldn't find Nick.. I guess he was in the cafeteria with his parents or something. I called him on the phone and he and his parents and Logan came up to the room. I was very nauseous, and threw up a couple of times. That hurt so bad!! I had to use the bathroom, eat, and walk around before I could leave the hospital. I was so sick to my stomach and in so much pain that I couldn't do any of those things! They finally gave me some anti-nausea medication, and some Percocet for the pain. I was so tired I kept falling asleep every five minutes. Nick kept trying to make me drink water, so I would pee.

At about 9:30, I finally went to the bathroom, and we were out of there within a half hour. I was so out of it, I don't really remember coming home at all. When we got home, I went straight to bed, and Nick went to the pharmacy to get my pain medication.

I slept for almost 12 hours!

Yesterday, I was moving around a little bit, from the bed to the couch and back. I was in pain, but not as much as the day before. I am slowly getting my appetite back, and today it is even easier to move around. It is just hard to sit up and down.

I guess that's it for now!

Some Updates

Well, my surgery is scheduled for this Friday, October 31st. Good thing Logan is too little to know that I won't see him on his first Halloween. :(

I have to be at the hospital at 11am, and surgery is scheduled to begin between 12:30-1pm. It should last about an hour, barring any complications, and recovery is about 3-4 hours. Then I should be on my way home. Nick's parents are taking Logan for the weekend. It will be the longest I've ever gone without him! I am sad already. I am hoping I will either be A. In too much pain to notice, or B. On too many painkillers to notice! Haha.

I'm sure I will be fine, but it is still scary going under the knife. Before having Logan, I had never even been admitted to a hospital! I am not one to be sick or anything, so this is all pretty new to me.

Dad is leaving Monday for Colorado for Amanda's 18th Birthday. I hope they have a great time together. I am so happy that Dad was able to do that. He will take the train both there and back.

I can't believe that my baby sister is turning 18 this year, and that she is graduating from high school in May. It is not possible.. I swear. She is still the five year old in my memories! When did she grow up?? Happy Birthday Kiddo! I love you!

School is going great. I'm really enjoying what I am doing. I am working on getting my A+ certification, the most basic IT certification out there. I also was elected President of the PC User's Club (haha.. it will be a good resume booster), and am doing all of the product requisitions for our Repair Shop, through the college. All of these things are giving me extra experience for the job search.

The only thing that irritates me is that there are a lot of students in my program who don't really care about being here. My classroom is very noisy and disruptive. I try and block it out since I am actually paying my way through school, I don't qualify for financial aid this year.

Hopefully I will continue to move quickly this year, and be able to finish by the end of June. If I can't however, I will be done by next December. Yay! I can't wait until I finish, so I can get a career job. When that happens, if we are not out of the condo by then, we will hopefully be able to at least rent it out and get out of there.

It is getting so tight with all of Logan's stuff, and we are all on each others nerves. Who knows, maybe we will actually be able to sell it when we get it back on the market!

Well, I should get back to my schoolwork.

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday!

Really Neat Obama Video

Please, remember to vote on November 4th. This election is SO important! I don't care if you vote for Obama or McCain, but please, stand up and be heard.

I am in love with this song!

I really like this song.. it is totally how I feel about Nick. :)

If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.
Cause I love the way you say good morning,
and you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.
Cause I love the way call me baby,
and you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine, when you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches, to all your tears.
Cause I love you more than I could ever promise,
and you take me the way I am.

You take me the way I am,
You take me the way I am.

Ingrid Michaelson-The Way I Am.
Wonderful song, love the lyrics, and the music too!

Quick Update!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Logan is getting SOO big! I can't believe he is over 3 months old already. Today he is 100 days old! He is growing in leaps and bounds! Last week, he started rolling over. He has only rolled over at Dad's house, so I haven't seen it yet, but I know he can do it. He also started sucking his left thumb this past week! It is the cutest thing! Sometimes he can't quite get just his thumb, so he will suck his index finger and thumb pinched together on his left hand. What a cutie!

We switched his binky to a new kind. The one he got from the hospital was getting too small, and was pretty nasty. Somehow, all his drool got in between the rubber layers and it was getting all green. Disgusting! So he isn't quite sure about his new binky, but I don't think it will take to long to get used to it.

Night before last, we gave him a little rice cereal in his bottle. I was kind of apprehensive to do it at first, since everything I have read says not to do it until he is four months old. However, we just couldn't take the waking every two hours to sleep anymore. So we gave him a little cereal, and he slept from 11:15pm-6am when we had to get up for work/school! WOW! I thought we were on the right track, but last night he was back to waking every two hours. Hmm.

The night before that, I had him sleep in his stroller (it goes completely flat). He woke up a few times to eat, but after he was done, I put him back in it and he would put himself to sleep! It was the first night that he never ended up in our bed!

So we had two big sleeping milestones (might have been flukes...). October 19, 2008: First time without sleeping in our bed for any part of the night, and October 20, 2008: First time sleeping through the night.

I weighed him on our scale the other day, so it isn't completely accurate, but I am guessing he weighs around 14 pounds. We also measured his length, and he is 24 1/2-25 inches long! He is getting so big!

He likes sitting up now, and prefers to do that than lay down. He can also pull himself up pretty well from a laying position to a sitting position using someones hands. He is also showing interest in toys now! He has a cute little giraffe rattle that is super soft that he likes to chew on, and there are a pair of plastic keys that have a little sun "keychain" that plays songs. It is easy for him to push, so he can actually turn it on himself!

As for us, I go in for my surgery consultation this afternoon. Hopefully I will get it scheduled to it happens soon. I can feel the hernia getting larger, and it is pushing out more. I'm trying not to lift too much, but I have a 3 month old, so not lifting anything is impossible. It is also getting quite more painful. Hopefully the surgeon will realize that I need to get this done as soon as possible.

We are also going to be putting the condo back on the market in the next couple of weeks. There are just a couple of things I need to finish up in the bathroom, and we need to keep the place spotless. (Very hard with so much baby stuff around!) Although the market is really crappy, I am really hoping we can get this sold soon. I am so ready to finally have our own place for our family.

Well, I guess that is about it for now, I need to get back to work. I will talk to you all soon.

Joe Biden Rally!

Today, I had the pleasure of being able to attend an Obama/Biden rally! Joe Biden came to Cheney Stadium. It was the first time I have ever had a chance to see any political candidates! It was so neat to be watching history in the making. Here are some pictures and videos of my time! I was so lucky, I got to be about 15 feet away from the podium! (Unfortunately there was a miror in front of him so I couldn't see completely well, but it was stil so awesome! I met one of the ladies from BabyCenter there too!

Updates

Logan accidently said Daddy this morning! He and Daddy were talking to each other this morning while I was getting ready for school. All of a sudden, I heard Logan say Daddy! He was just imitating, but it came out clear as day!

My friend's little girl will be laid to rest on Saturday. I wish I could be there, but she is in Hawaii.

I was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia in two places today. I will need surgery to get it repaired. I have an appointment on October 22nd with a general surgeon for a consultation. We will hopefully get it scheduled then. It is outpatient surgery, and I should be home the same day. It will be another 2-4 weeks of recovery. After that, I am going to start exercising! I need to shed these baby pounds!

Sorry this is so short, Logan is sleeping on my left arm, so this is all one-handed typing! I'm talented huh? :)

Remembering Mercedez

Yesterday, I got the sad news from one of my online Mommy buddies, that her darling little girl, Mercedez had passed away. She was three weeks older than Logan. We have been talking, along with a group of other women, since December or so. It's really hitting me hard, and I just can't believe it is happening to her. So if you all could take just one second out of your day to think about Pikake (the mommy), her daughters Ashlyn and Siena, and her angel Mercedez.

Updated: We found out this weekend that little Mercedez died from SIDS. :(

October

Wow. I can't believe it is October again.

This year has passed by so quickly, there have been so many huge life changes. Looking back at the past year or so, I don't even know how we did it!

Last August, my mom and little sister moved to Colorado. That was really hard seeing them leave, since I had never been more than 10 minutes away from them my whole life!

Last September, I started going back to school. I started at Bates, in the computer networking systems technician program. I was also working six days a week at the Spaghetti Factory. I would be at school all day (7-3) and then work from 4-11ish. Yikes.

In October, we became pregnant! (We just didn't know it yet!)

On November 16, we found out we were going to have a little one! The next week, for Thanksgiving, Nick and I drove with his parents and brother to California. We went to Disneyland (my first time.. and I couldn't do that much since I was pregnant!), and the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose. We stayed with Nick's Aunt Pattie and her family which was awesome :)

December 5th, Nick proposed to me! He left me a scavenger hunt when I got off work, which ended with him being on the roof of our building and proposing to me over the moonlit city. It was better than I ever could have expected!

January 4th we got married. It was a small little affair at the Lakewood courthouse. We had our wedding dinner at Shenanigan's, and then Nick's parents sent us away to Thornewood Castle for the night. I was blessed and got to have my mom and sister out for the wedding, even though I wasn't sure they'd be able to make it.

I also ended up withdrawing from school in January because I was getting so much morning sickness. Half the time I couldn't make it out of bed, and when I would make it to school I would just sit at my desk and try not to throw up. It was awful.

February, we found out that we were expecting a little boy! It only took me a day or two to really get used to that idea!

In March, Jeanene welcomed her first little man, Joey. He was born on the 5th. When I held him, I couldn't believe that soon I would have one of those too!

In April, I turned 21! I had a baby shower that day with my friends so I wouldn't pay attention to the fact that I couldn't drink lol.

In May, I had the family baby shower. It was a lot of fun! I also was able to see my friend Lisa marry her husband Rick.

In June, Jeanene married Chris, and I started going into early labor by the end of the month.

Three weeks later on July 14, we finally welcomed Logan into the world. That was the best day of my life. (Followed closely by our wedding day!)

In August, we were all just adjusting to Logan being around. My mom and sister came out to visit and be here for my grandma's 80th surprise birthday party.

September, I returned to school at Bates. I switched into the information technology specialist program though. It is a little bit more geared for what I would like to do with my life.

Now, it is October again. If I had been asked a year ago if this is where I saw myself being, I would have said HECK NO! But I am so glad that this is the way life has turned out. I am so lucky to have the man that I do in Nick, and doubly as lucky to have the beautiful son that I do. I love them both so much.

Thanks guys :)

At School Again...

I figured I would write a quick update today! It is the end of my first week back at school. I have finished the first textbook already! It was a pretty easy part of the class, so it leaves more time for the harder stuff!

It seems to me that Logan is having quite a hard time adjusting to his new routine. I feel bad everyday for Dad when I leave him there. Apparently yesterday Logan cried for 6 hours while I was gone. :( He is definitely a Mommy's boy. I miss him a lot while I am here at school. But I am glad that I am finishing this because I really NEED to. For myself, and my family. I want to make sure that we have a great start to life.

Now for some amusing facts about school. My workstation is next to the program's mini fridge! And the microwave. I swear, four people yesterday made popcorn. That is SO annoying. The sound, the smell.. ughh. Posted on the mini fridge is this sign.. which I read everyday and is kind of interesting:

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

That kind of makes me think. I definitely have cried because time is moving so fast with Logan. I can't believe that he is almost three months old already! I've got the taking too many pictures down too! (My 4GB flash drive that Mom bought me is already pretty much full of Logan pictures and video! I'm going to have to buy another, or an external hard drive maybe..).

I'm glad for what being a Mom has taught me already. Take time for the little things. One smile, one giggle, one hiccup, can make my day. Savor everyday moments that you will never get back. Love every moment of it. Laugh as much as you can. Even when Logan decides to pee all over you and himself five minutes before you have to walk out the door. Be late, spend time together. The world will wait. :)

At School

Well, here I am, sitting at school on a Wednesday morning. I've gotten a ton of work done already today (worked through 4 chapters of the Understanding Computers book). So I figured I'd take a minute to write a quick update.. even though technically I shouldn't be on here! Oh well. Things are going well so far, I am already halfway through this textbook, and it's only been 2 1/2 days! Since Bates is competency based, I don't necessarily have to read everything if I know it already. I just have to take some tests, or in this case, just fill out the review questions at the end of each chapter. I'm really glad that this part is easy, I'm trying to finish as much of the program this year as possible. If I can work through this first book this week only, then I can go ahead and start working through the A+ textbook. That is the basics of PC repair.

I am really enjoying myself this year. This material is way more interesting to me than the electronics was last year. This is what I want to do, and I have so much more motivation this year, so I am really excited.

Logan is doing fairly well with Dad. He watches him for us. I think in the next couple of weeks, Logan will get more used to the routine, and it will be even better for Dad. Right now, Logan goes through spurts of about an hour where he will not calm down and just screams. (Poor Dad!) But it sounded like yesterday (only the 2nd day) he only had one major outburst, and most of the other time he was either sleeping (3 hour nap!) or playing. Dad also took him for a little stroll around the neighborhood, which Logan seemed to enjoy too! Yay! I know that as Logan grows up, he and Dad are going to have a great bond. I am so glad that Dad agreed to help us out. I am so excited that they will be lifelong buddies!

We go pick up Logan's portraits today!! I am SO excited to see how they all turned out.

He is growing like a weed too! He has grown out of some of his newborn clothes, and fits into some three month clothes now too. My little guy is growing up!

Anyway, I should probably stop for now, before I get in trouble, haha!
